After no success with my MSD as far as
setting my shift points, I decided to bypass the whole system
and put an MSD RPM Activated unit back in the car. This worked
well in the old car, so there should be no reason that it
wouldn't work.
Once we had the car off the trailer and warmed up, we noticed
that we had a little water leaking out of one of the cylinder
heads and the car just didn't sound right. To get the car
running for the night I decided to put some Chemiweld in the
cooling system. This seemed to ease the problem, but the heads
will have to come off when I get home.
My first pass was at 7:41pm, the car just didn't sound and feel
right after half track so I lifted before the stripe, we ran
10.336 @ 119.92 mph. One thing that I was pleased about was that
the shifter worked with the RPM Activation Switch. |

Once back in the pits we looked at a
few plugs and they all looked fine, the water had stopped
weeping so we will continue on. My next pass was at 9:27pm and
the Cortina ran a PB of 10.048 @ 133.96 mph, so we were all
excited.
40 minutes later we were up again and by the reaction of the
crew in the deep end and the way the car felt going down the
track. I had finally cracked a sub 10 second pass. 9.935 @
134.91 mph. Excited by this we had less that 30 minutes to back
around to the staging lanes for one more pass for the night.
I put another rpm chip for the gear change to see if I could
improve on the previous run. As luck would have it the chip was
faulty, which pretty much hurt the pass, It was on a quicker
pass up until it was time to shift, but by the time I reacted
and had to manually shift the damage was done, we ran 10.109 @
133.56 mph. With that being it for the night we went home
extremely happy.
Until next time
