Jim Denaro - Meeting Report
Arriving at the track a little later than usual, this was my first trip with my new trailer which travelled perfectly to the track. We just made to the end of the staging lanes for our first qualifier.
Our first pass was at 9:15am with the Cortina running 9.82 @ 135.65 which was a whole tenth slower than the previous meeting, but conditions were a little different. Back in the pits, I adjusted the timing and  then headed around to the staging lanes for our second qualifier. 10:36am conditions were not favourable with us running 9.85 @ 134.93 with the 60ft times being a little off from the previous meeting. Before our third qualifier I adjusted the carburettor, changing the air bleeds back to original settings. It was 11:58am the MPH was back up again, but the ET stayed the same.
Eliminations Round 1:
I was up against Nick Elefantis in his 421 Windsor powered Cortina. Nick dialled 8.99 while I dialled 9.84. I left with a .009 to a .091. I got the win running 9.842 and moving on to round 2.
Eliminations Round 2:
I was up against Kerry Demetriou in his Chevy powered LJ Torana. I dialled 9.82 to Kerry's 9.49 I left with a .017 to a .037. I had .020 advantage. I got to the strip first by .032 taking the win and advancing into the 1/4 Finals.
Eliminations 1/4 Final:
After a long wait in the staging lanes I was paired up against Gordon Tayloy in his Ford Mustang. Gordon has dialled 9.46, while I went back to a 9.84 dial in (big mistake). I again had the advantage off the tree with a .011 to a .085. With all the advantage off the tree, I kept looking and was expecting him to pass me with a lot more MPH than I thought. Forcing me to break out. Going 9.822, to Gordon's 9.466.
All in all a good day, with the Cortina ready for the trip up north to the Enzed Top Fuel Championships. Thanks to Adam Gardener,  Dylan Richardson and Des Curnow for there help.
