Jim Denaro - Event Report
Well it's been a busy couple of weeks with the motor coming out to sort out the head sealing issues. While we were at it, I fitted new rings and bearings and got the camshaft reground. Once it was back together it started and ran nice, it was a shame the test n tune was rained out. We had to go to the Nationals blind.
Friday: The weather started out ordinary. My first run was at 12:18pm and it was a shocker running 10.05, not happy. Back to the pits we checked over everything and ended up just leaning it out for the next pass, which was at 9:47pm. It ran better, but was still popping going down the track, running 9.93.
Saturday: I decided to lean it out some more for the last qualifier. we ran at 10:20am and it was much the same running 9.95, still playing up. While we checked it out and getting ready for the first round, I decided to richen it back up as it seemed we had gone too lean, but I took to long deciding and we got the call, so I just took some timing out and headed fo the lanes. Now we had to put a dial in on the car. We ran at 1:07pm against the red 57 Chevy of Andrew Chessels. I got the startline advantage and won on a double breakout. I ran 9.92 on a 9.93 dial with the engine still missing.
The second round was only and hour later, I droopped my dial in to 9.90 to Paul Foley's 8.70, this race was much the same as round 1. Double breakout, I ran 9.89.
Sunday: We got started at 9:56am and I was up against Andrew Constantinou in his Mustang. This race was won on the tree, and I was able to back off at the strip running 9.90 on my 9.88 dial in to Andrew's 7.73 on a 7.73 dial in. In less than an hour it was time for the quarter finals. It would be a pair of Cortinas with Joesph Somma dialing 8.23 to my 9.88, I out reacted his .021 to .024 only to breakout backing off and losing 9.86 to 8.23 with Joseph backing off aswell.
It was a good weekend and to go some rounds was a bonus as the engine wasn't happy.
Thanks to my crew for a great weekend.
Cheers
