We got to the track around midday and it was hot, track temp might be an issue as I think my slicks might be past there best. We proceeded to warm the car up and put the new shift controller through its paces with some low rpm settings, all seemed good so we headed out for a run, it ran 10.70 with the shifter going into top at the launch. I assumed it had something to do with the arming wire from the transbrake so I disconnected it and headed out again arming the controller manually when I got in the car only to notice as we went through the tunnel that when I blipped the throttle the controller wanted to change gear so I decided to disarm it and shift manually for this run and it went 9.94 @136.30 which wasn’t to bad.
When we got back to the pits I checked the rpm settings in the shift controller and found that they were still at the low settings I had used earlier, the higher settings hadn’t been saved so I reset them and made sure that they had stuck and went out to see what would happen and it worked perfect running 9.87 @136.94. Ok so now we have that sorted it was time to up the rpm a bit and it was quicker to half track but slowed to 9.90 @ 135.24,it was quite slippery out there but it had been all day. I checked the data, decided to bring the timing back a little and headed back out only to hear what seemed like a rocker noise after the burnout so I didn’t run it.

When we got back to the pits we pulled the rocker covers off and went through the valve lashes and checked all the spark plugs but couldn’t find anything wrong so packed it up and headed home were I have since pulled the engine to find one conrod bearing smashed. OUCH!!!  It seems that last time the engine was out to fix the heads, when the heads were milled I didn’t think to check the piston to head clearance and because the pistons wee machined to suit the chamber in the head so now with a slightly smaller chamber they were hitting. Hopefully it won’t be to long before its back together and back at the track.

Cheers.
