Denaro - Meeting Report
After Round 6 of the Track
Championships was rained out in Sydney, not to do a meeting
report as I only got one run, in which the car ran 9.96, which
gave me a little data for the Enzed Top Fuel Championships.
The weather was much kinder to us up there and after we set up
camp, we set about getting the car ready for the first qualifier
which was at 4:39pm on Friday. I must of been a bit amped as I
left before the tree came down but luckily I recorded a time so
it wasn't a waste. The car ran 10.00 @ 135.21 mph and that
was it for us for the day, so we could spend some time in the
stands watching Group 1 and Group 2 cars.
On Saturday morning I changed the timing curve and ran with less
pressure in the new Goodyear slicks, which was an improvement,
we had our second qualifier at 10:54am and I went -.004 red and
ran 9.937 @ 136.62.
Our final qualifier was at 1:47pm and I left the car as it was,
I went .014 green and ran 9.938. We were ready for Eliminations,
we qualified 19th in a 26 car Super Sedan field. |

Eliminations
Round 1
Was at 3:52pm and I was racing Matt Marsh in his Torana, I
dialed in at 9.92 to his 9.12. I left with a .025 light to
his -.016 red. I looked up at the scoreboards and saw that my
win light was flashing and drove it through toa 9.935, that
settled the nerves a bit. First round is always the hardest.
Eliminations Round 2
Was at 6:11pm and I was racing Gavin List in his Nova, Gavin had
dialed in at 9.37, while I left my dial in at 9.92. I left with
another good light .022 to Gavin's .359 light and I was able to
roll off the throttle to take the win with a 9.971 @ 128 mph to
advance into Round 3. |

Eliminations
Round 3 (The Dreaded ¼ Finals)
Was at 8:01pm and I was racing Neil
Maxwell in his Ford Probe which dialed in a 8.47 to my 9.92. I
left with a .003 light, but got a little out of shape and
luckily when I looked up my win light was on as Neil had gone
-.005 red. I could still have been stuck in the quarters (my hoo
doo lately) if it wasn't for Neil red lighting. Is this the luck
in which I have been waiting for....fingers crossed.
Eliminations Round 4
Semi Final
A quick turn around and we were up at 8.57pm. I was racing Dave
Foreman in his Camira which dialed in a 8.90 to my 9.92.
Unfortunately for Dave he was having problems staging as he
would bring on the last stage light and hit the trans brake
button and the car would roll back out of the beam, at this
point I've got the revs up expecting the tree to come down
anyway but it didn't, so I came off the throttle and he did the
same thing again. I didn't stay on the throttle as long and when
the revs came down, so did the tree which gave him a red light,
so I let go of my trans brake button...problem was I had no revs
on board so it ran 10.109 @ 137.33 mph, not the best preparation
for the final, but a win none the less. |

FINAL
With a bit of a wait, we were up
again for the Final of Super Sedan. It was 9:45pm and I was up
against Paul Doeblien in his Falcon Ute, which dialed in 9.25 to
my 9.92, I got the advantage off the line leaving with a .018 to
Paul's .063. Seeing the advantage I had on the score boards and
where he was on the track nearing the finish line I backed
off...but it was too little too late. as I broke out running
9.90 while Paul ran a near perfect 9.251. That's racing.
At least the trip home was easier knowing that we are now
leading the RARS Championships now.
Thanks to my crew for the trip Cassandra and Mel.
Looking forward to the next one. |
