Jim Denaro - Meeting Report

After the last meeting I had a little accident with the race car rolling forward on the trailer damaging the bonnet, guards and grille, that made for a busy week and I decided to do something different with the bonnet so it is silver for the time being.

This being the second last Track Championship Round for the season, and we would have to make it count, if we were to make a run for the title. We are sitting equal third going in to this meet, four rounds behind the leader.

Friday Qualifier No 1:

I ran with same tune as the last meeting with less tyre pressure, and it felt like it was struggling to grab hold of the track running 9.917 @ 134 mph to my surprise. We got back to the pits checked the data, I changed the timing curve and put the tyre pressure back up.

Friday Qualifier No 2:

It felt a lot better running 9.890 @ 136.34 mph.

Saturday Qualifier No 3:

I left the tune alone and ran 9.869 @ 136.52 mph and with the air no where near as good as Friday we had a bit of a pattern.

Saturday Qualifier No 4:

We ran 9.886 @ 134.67 mph so I was pretty happy and confident going into eliminations.

Eliminations Round 1

In the other lane would be Ryan Taylor in his S10 Ute who is equal in points with me at this point, Ryan leaves a cherry on tree, handing me the win, I had a .011 reaction and ran it through for a 9.888 @ 135.54 mph on a 9.86 dial.

Eliminations Round 2

I was up against Elise Taylor in her Mustang and this would be the first time in a while were I would be the faster car, she dialed in with a 10.55 to my 9.88. I got the start line advantage and was able to back off and take the win.

Eliminations Round 3 Quarter Finals
I was up against Chris Stevemure in his Torana, I had a slightly better reaction and it was close at the finish line but my 9.923 on a 9.87 dial wasn’t good enough for his 8.923 on a 8.89 dial in. Chris got a bye into the final and won a double red-light final over Harry Plessas who has basically wrapped up the championship while we moved up to second.

I’ve got some suspension issues to sort out but it was a good race meeting and the weather was great.

Thanks to my crew, we’ll do it again in a few weeks.
