Jim Denaro - Meeting Report
We headed to Queensland a day earlier as I had left my car up there as there was no racing in Sydney between the Winternationals Part 1 and Part 2.
Many thanks to Ash & Christine for baby sitting my Cortina.
Once we had arrived mid afternoon after a casual trip, we did the once over and fired up the car. All was sweet, so we proceeded to load up both vehicles ready for an early get away on Friday morning.
Friday
We arrived at the track just after 9:00am and unloaded the car. Got all the paperwork out of the way and then warmed up the car ready for our first Test run which was due at around 10:30am.
With everything ready we headed for the staging lanes and we lined up in the right hand lane at 10:42am. I good solid pass first up was pleasing. We ran 9.858 @ 135.50 with everything being good.
We got back to our pit and fueled up and checked all data, then proceeded to set up camp for the weekend ahead.
Our second Test pass was due at around 2:00pm. We lined up this time in the left lane at 2:08pm. The air was a couple of hundred feet worse than the morning run, but the car ran to the conditions; running 9.872 @ 135.46 with the 60ft time being a carbon copy of the first pass.
That was it for day 1 part 2.
We only need to crunch some numbers for Eliminations tomorrow.
While we were cooking the BBQ the rain started and it didn't stop all night, but it was not heavy just consistent.
Tomorrow might be in doubt.
Saturday
We woke up to rain and more rain, didn't even bother getting out of bed. Today looked like shit.
The track put over the PA system after lunch that there would be NO Sportsman racing today only Group 2 and Group 1 as the skies had cleared. As it turned out Group 2 were in the staging lanes just after 4:00pm and the rain came down again. Day over. Maybe an early call as it cleared up again BUT no cars went down the track. (SILLY).
The rain did come back when night fell, so the board games came out and Cassandra got on Facebook.
Tomorrows weather forecast was for sunshine, but we will wait and see.
Sunday
The alarm went off and there was no rain in sight. With the new schedule out Group 1 and 2 got the raw end of the deal for once, while the Sportsman racers just continued on. Only a day later.
As a few Super Sedan competitors had not returned for Part 2, Officially Round 2 of the meeting would be seeded. I was paired up against Paul Doeblien, who was only 20 point behind me in the Australian Championship Points.
We decided on a dial in, in which we were confident in and rolled out into the burnout box at 9:33am.
I had  dialed in 9.86 with Paul dialing in 9.15. There was .018 difference in the reaction times which ended up costing us the race, as Paul only went .016 over his nominated dial in. It was close. I crossed the stripe .001 infront, but paid the penalty by breaking out by .003.
Championship Over.
Special thanks to Ash & Christine for there hospitality and the use of there Mobile home. A marquee is looking good for next year.
Again thanks to my crew for a great season regardless of what the weather through at us all season. We will start again in September at the Australian Nationals.
Cheers Jim.
