Nielsen - Meeting Report
The day had arrived and the small block chev was about
to its 500 pass down the dragstrip. With all the hype
leading up to this pass, the burnout was a big let down.
The engine seemed to bog as I hit the throttle then
cleared, but it was crap. The engine got up on the 2
step as usual but everything was wrong, the dragster
stepped out at around 300ft but I kept into it as it
didn't feel that bad; and it was the engines 500 pass.
The time card was not even worth looking at and the EGT
showed that we were still a little rich.

Back in the pits we
re-jetted the carby and headed out for pass # 501. The
burnout was weird, while I was half way through the
burnout the engine seemed to pull down, then it revved
up again and continued on.
Once in stage I jumped on the throttle and the engine
almost stalled, I still had the throttle at Wide Open
Throttle and the revs picked up again. It left the line
like a an old mole, with the 60ft being 1.65 |

Once the dragster got
going a little it picked up and I ran the full 1/4 mile.
When I got to the turn off at the end of the track I
bumped the engine back into 2nd gear to get around the
corner and the converter made some ugly sounds. I put it
into neutral and the noise went away, I put it back into
2nd and the noise came back, time to shut the engine
down, the converter is now rooted. |
