Tim Nielsen - Meeting Report
With everything set up in our pit area on Thursday afternoon. We were ready first thing Friday morning for our first qualifier at 11:40am. We ran 8.564 @ 154.19. Our afternoon qualifier wasn't until 4:30pm, the weather conditions improved for our afternoon pass, with the dragster running 8.515 @ 156.73, which ended out first qualifying day on a high.
Saturday would see us have our third qualifier in the morning at 10:50am. The dragster moved around a little at around half track due to track conditions, but we managed to run 8.585 @ 153.84
With that being the end of our qualifying runs, we had to wait 12 hours until our first round pass wich would be at 11:15pm (we were due out at 7:00pm)
Eliminations
With the Modified field seeded, I would be racing Ken Stewart in his Chevy powered Rear Engine Dragster. Ken was pitted next to me and we both had the entire day to put a dial in on our respective dragsters. First round was finally upon us at 11:15PM, YEAH ALMOST MIDNIGHT. I didn't have to much confidence in the track, being that late at night, but both of us had to put some kind of realistic dial in on our vehicles. I put 8.50 on my dragster, while Ken put 7.59 on his. This race would be won on the reaction times, I left with a .062 due to bad tyre spin off the startline while Ken left with a .182. My 60ft time was the worst of the race meet. My dragster ran so far off due to track conditions, I was lucky to get away with the win. We ran 8.669 flat out. With that out of the way, we could now concentrate on Round 2 on Sunday morning.
I would be paired up against Brett White in Geoff Wright's Ford Powered Rear Engine Dragster.
Sunday
10:28am I adjusted my dial in to 8.57 to Brett's 8.00 flat. We both left with good lights, with Brett have a .016 advantage. Brett got the win light running 8.039 to my 8.618. It was close at the end with less that 6 feet in it at the stripe.
Well that's the Nationals over for another year. The scheduling needs to be looked at as 12 hours wait in one day is a joke.
Thanks to my crew of Jim Denaro, Cassandra Richardson and Dylan Richardson and to my sponsors PROTRANS Performance Automatics, MES Electrical and Bob & Josie from Fuel 2 Race.
Thanks
Tim Nielsen
